Kilimani Murder Victim Monica Kimani Laid to Rest in Gilgil

Monica Kimani who was found murdered in her Kilimani apartment in Nairobi last week was on Friday laid to rest in her family's farm in Chemichemi village, Gilgil in Nakuru County.

A sombre mood defined proceedings as family and friends eulogized her, with some of those she worked with in South Sudan breaking down as they spoke about her.

Her family spoke fondly of the memories they had of Monica, also known as 'Monix'.

Those who spoke strongly condemned the killing, demanding that investigating agencies dig deep to uncover the truth.

In a white casket, her body was put into the ground a few minutes before 4 pm.

The ceremony took place against the backdrop of high-profile investigations with detectives treating Joe Irungu as the main suspect.

Joe, as it emerged, once dated Kimani before getting engaged to Citizen TV news anchor Jackie Maribe.

Maribe on Friday returned to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) for further interrogation in connection to the murder.

She had earlier been grilled as police sought to corroborate a statement by Irungu on the events that transpired that fateful night.

Maribe also took Irungu to various hospitals after he allegedly sustained a gunshot wound around their house in Royal Park Estate, Lang'ata.

Reverend Kennedy Mbatia who led the service stated that the family had forgiven the killers but called for the culprits to be brought to book.

“As we seek answers of this death, we want to thank the media for highlighting this case and other evils that are bedeviling the country,” he stated.
