Citizen TV News Anchor Jacque Maribe Arrested in Connection With Monica Kimani Murder

Citizen TV News anchor Jacque Maribe was on Saturday arrested by detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) in connection with the murder of Monica Kimani in her Kilimani apartment.

This comes after it emerged that the chief suspect in the murder, connected private security provider Joe Irungu was her lover.

Maribe's arrest follows the emergence of new evidence.

She is being held at the Gigiri Police and  is to be arraigned in court on Monday.

In her initial statement, Maribe claimed that she did not know about Monica Nyawira Kimani until she read the news of her shocking death on live television.

She was interrogated at DCI headquarters on Thursday and asked to report for a follow-up grilling.

Ms Kimani's brother discovered her body in the bathtub with her throat slit.

Irungu, who previously worked in private security in Dubai, Afghanistan and for top Jubilee politicians during 2017 General Election was the last person to be sighted leaving Monica's apartment.

He picked up Maribe at a club later on and they drove home to Royal Park Apartments in Lang'ata.

According to Irungu, he sustained a gunshot wound to his chest outside his home before the assailants escaped on motorcycles.

Maribe, allegedly drunk, drove her to various hospitals including Nairobi West Hospital.

Sleuths believe that Irungu and Maribe met around July 2017 as they were both actively involved in Jubilee party campaigns.

The investigations have reportedly been frustrated by some of Joe's powerful visitors in custody.

According to the Standard, unnamed state officials visited him while two international mercenary groups are in the country working to ensure Irungu does not offer up any sensitive information to authorities.
