Nyandarua Governor Francis Kimemia Cancels Christmas Break for County Staff

Employees of the County Government of Nyandarua have been denied their highly anticipated Christmas break.

Nyandarua Governor Francis Kimemia issued the directive after a day-long meeting with senior county officials to review the performance of the government.

Those who had already proceeded for leave were ordered to report back to work.

It emerged that numerous projects were yet to be completed in the 2017/18 financial year alongside those budgeted for in 2018/19 financial year.

The staff are required to implement, supervise and monitor the implementation of these projects. If they go in leave, who will ensure that the job is done? ” Kimemia wondered.

Consequently, no staff should be on leave. Those on leave should immediately resume work while no request for leave will be approved,” added the county boss.

He urged the chief officers to agree with the affected staff on how to take their leave in future.

The most delayed projects were on road construction, whose completion was affected by prolonged rains experienced in most parts of the country for the better part of last year and early this year.

The county government had budgeted Kshs1.1 billion for roads improvement and the governor insisted that the money must be utilised before the start of the long rains.

The county has received more than Kshs300 million from donors for development projects, with implementation deadlines.
