Malindi MP Aisha Jumwa Vows to Quit ODM

Malindi Member of Parliament Aisha Jumwa has announced a plan to leave the Orange Democratic Party (ODM) before the 2022 elections.

Addressing her supporters, the troubled legislator revealed that she would no longer vie for elective seats through the party.

She, however, promised her supporters that she would continue serving them through ODM until 2022 when she will officially quit.

Naona mwenyewe sababu macho ninayo, na uamuzi wangu wa 2022 hautarudi nyuma. Hivi sasa nitawatumikia ndani ya ODM, lakini ikifika 2022, nimehama, (I can see by myself because I have got eyes and my 2022 decision will not be disrupted. Right now, I will work for you through ODM but when 2022 comes, I will switch.)” stated the legislator.

The embattled MP has had a rough ride at ODM most notably in December when Kilifi leaders recommended that she be expelled from the party.

Jumwa, alongside Msambweni MP Suleiman Dori, were served with show-cause letters by ODM Chairman John Mbadi accusing them of declaring support for DP William Ruto.

"Specifically you have been quoted by several media houses as declaring in public forums that the 'coastal people have been betrayed by Raila Odinga and ODM and should look elsewhere to realize some development,” read the letter from Mbadi.

ODM Secretary General Edwin Sifuna also revealed that the party would not tolerate unruly behaviour from members.

"The Disciplinary Committee in its report recommended the expulsion from the party of Aisha Jumwa and Suleiman Dori for gross misconduct," wrote Sifuna.

Migori County disciplinary committee had also recommended the expulsion of their Governor Okoth Obado.
