Mutuma Mathiu Appointed Editorial Director at NMG

Nation Media Group (NMG) kicked of 2019 with a new Group Editorial Director appointment.

The Kimathi-based media house appointed legendary journalist Mutuma Mathiu to occupy the new corner office.

Mathiu will be tasked with the oversight of the Group’s editorial policy that includes enforcing the ethics, integrity and editorial policy as well as managing content sharing across markets.

Other roles the he will be expected to take on also include being responsible for the oversight of joint products for the regional and continental market as well as that of talent development.

“It is with great pleasure that I announce the appointment of Mutuma Mathiu as the group Editorial Director effective 1st January 2019,” read the notice.

The notice further clarified that the new appointee would be in charge of all editorial operations at the media house.

Mathiu joined NMG in 1997 as a writer for the Sunday Nation and worked his way up the ranks to the current position.

He previously worked as a Group Managing Director and the Managing Director of Daily Nation and Sunday Nation newspapers.

This appointment comes months after the company’s Editor-in-Chief and Executive Director Tom Mshindi retired from the position.

NMG’s Group Chairman Wilfred Kiboro praised Mshindi as a loyal, dedicated and highly valued member of the executive team and the Board.

Mshindi had worked at Nation Media for 24 years.
