AU Envoy Raila Odinga, on Monday, joined President Uhuru Kenyatta and DPP Noordin Haji in calling out the judiciary over slowing down the anti-graft war.
Speaking during a public lecture at the University of Nairobi, Raila accused the CJ David Maraga – led Judiciary system of being a stumbling block in the fight against corruption.
He further blamed its officers of conspiring with the culprits hence leading to defeat of the Judiciary system.
Comparing the system with that of other countries, Raila claimed that Kenya’s was not active enough. Other countries dealt with the corrupt fearlessly.
He also pointed out that the manner in which the culprits presented themselves as being unfairly targeted after bail release was majorly hindering justice.
Raila further discouraged the Judiciary from allowing public servants facing corruption charges from being allowed to return to work.
He explained that by doing so, courts paved the way for them to interfere with the evidence.
Earlier in the year, President Uhuru claimed that graft cases took too long to reach conclusion promising to change the status quo.
“Individuals charged with corruption offences will not be allowed to flaunt their ill-gotten wealth as court proceedings are ongoing.
"Once the suspects are convicted, the assets will be transferred to the Criminal Asset Recovery Fund, ready for use to finance projects and programmes that will improve the lives of Kenyans,” he stated at a round table with journalists.
The two joined DPP Haji who, in 2018, complained over public servants facing corruption still holding public offices.
