Couple Holds Wedding Ceremony at Maternity Ward

Francis Mungai and his newly wedded wife Veronica Kaniu planned for their holy matrimony ceremony to take place in a church- the PCEA Kiganjo Church in Thika on Saturday.

Like any other couple, they had invested their time and resources in planning for and making investments to ensure a wonderful experience that they would remember for the rest of their lives.

Unforeseen as it was, fate would have it the other way for them. The bride, who was heavily expectant, began to experience labour pains on Wednesday.

According to the Standard, Veronica was then admitted at the Thika Level 5 Hospital. But her continued stay at the hospital meant that the couple could not hold the wedding at the church on the planned day.

An examination by the medical personnel at the hospital led to the recommendation that she should undergo a Caesarean section for the delivery of the baby.

The successful operation was done on Thursday and the couple was blessed with a bouncing baby boy.

They were still determined to make sure they get married as initially planned. As such, they asked the management of the hospital if they could have the ceremony at the hospital premises since Veronica and the baby were still under the supervision of the doctors.

It was difficult for the couple to postpone the event since all plans were set. They also established contact with the administration of the church to deliberate on the matter.

"We had no alternative but to do our wedding here at the hospital. The doctors told me that my wife was not in a position to go home for the wedding and so I requested them to permit us to go ahead with our plans at the hospital," Mungai was quoted.

After having positive responses from both the church and the hospital, the wedding took place at the maternity ward.

There were light moments during the ceremony which involved relatives, friends, church members, and members of the hospital staff.

Veronica was unable to hold back her joy. She indicated, "I have no words to express my joy and happiness since I never expected the wedding to go on. I have no enough words to thank God for what he has done to us as a family. I am very happy that I delivered safely and we have now crowned the joy of welcoming our new-born son with exchanging our wedding vows".
