ODM Expells Aisha Jumwa & Suleiman Dori

The National Executive Committee (NEC) of ODM party on Thursday officially expelled MPs  Aisha Jumwa (Malindi) and Suleiman Dori (Msambweni) from the party.

In a letter signed by the Secretary-General, Edwin Sifuna, NEC adopted the recommendation by the disciplinary committee to have Jumwa and Dori expelled from the party.

They also recommended that the two be de-whipped from all Parliamentary Committees they are serving in the National Assembly with immediate effect.

Furthermore, they directed the Minority Whip to move with speed to make the communication to the speaker, Justin Muturi.

NEC had met in a city hotel where they listened to the ODM members who had been recommended for expulsion by the disciplinary committee.

On December 4, 2018, NEC made a resolution that the recommended members for expulsion should be summoned to appear in person and be given a chance to defend themselves.

It is reported that the leaders were each accorded adequate time to defend their positions before the NEC.

Earlier on, after coming out of the meeting, the two MPs had claimed that their expulsion from the party was an unfair act in the Spirit of the Handshake.

"Under the spirit of the handshake, what is hard in forgiving me? Everything has been forgiven. There are those who were killed but all that is water under the bridge now," Juma asserted.

On the other hand, Dori was adamant stating, “ODM is our party and we are going nowhere”.

The leadership of ODM had indicated that the two openly expressed their support for Deputy President William Ruto’s 2022 presidential bid hence contravening the Party's position.

The MPs were also faulted for making some unenthusiastic remarks about the leadership of the party.

For instance, they were on record declaring that Raila Odinga betrayed the Coast people in matters of development.
