The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) detectives from Kisumu and Bungoma, on Tuesday, arrested a senior police officer after he was caught receiving a bribe.
The officer, a deputy OCS attached to Busia Police Station, reportedly received a bribe in order to release a car that had a Ugandan number plate.
Working on a tip-off, the sleuths also recovered Ksh 50,000 from the accused.
The EACC team, which was led by Robert Korir, further claimed that a machine meant for printing fake currency was found in the vehicle released by the officer.
“We conducted investigations after being tipped off on the matter and arrested the policeman.
"The officer knew the machine used to make fake money was in that vehicle, that is why he refused to release it until he got Ksh50,000," stated a detective.
In December 2018, another senior officer found himself in trouble after being convicted of murder by a Nairobi court.
Former Ruaraka police boss Nahashon Mutua had been accused of torturing a suspect, Martin Koome, to death at the Ruaraka police cells four years ago.
Delivering her ruling at the time, Justice Stella Mutuku stated that the evidence was compelling enough to convict the former police boss of murder.
In the incidence that took place on the night of December 19, 2013, Koome succumbed to injuries sustained after being beaten by the officer in his cell.
