Violent Gang Fight Inside School Compound Leaves 15 Injured

Learning was disrupted at Tulia Moyo primary school in Likoni as pupils had to scamper for safety after two gangs clashed within the school compound.

The gang members who were armed with crude weapons including machetes left around 10 to 15 of them injured according to reports.

A number of teachers also fled in the fracas.

The Standard reports that a teacher who wanted to remain anonymous had to lock other pupils in classes as the violence unfolded outside.

Things were really bad. We could not face the gangs. We could only lock our pupils in the classrooms,” added the teacher.

Florida Mwando, the school’s headteacher reported that no pupil was hurt in the commotion and that the school was planning to build a perimeter.

A road used by residents cuts through the school.

Likoni police chief Benjamin Rotich, on Thursday, stated that no arrest has been made yet but investigations were underway.

Juma Imam, a bodaboda rider in the area who witnessed the whole incident claimed that the gang members started robbing each other after the fight.

Imam reported the matter at Inuka police station under OB number 15/18/3/2019.

He reported that the gang members were aged between 15 and 25 years and attacked anyone who declined to give them money.
