Former Nakuru CEC in Ksh12M Court Battle With Governor Over Unfair Dismissal

Former Nakuru County Sports Minister Halima Gababa is not going down without a fight after she was dismissed from the post by Governor Lee Kinyanjui.

In papers filed at the Employment and Labour Relations Court, Gababa demands a Ksh12 million compensation claiming that she was wrongfully terminated.

Justice Monica Mbaru further heard that Gababa, who had been employed on permanent basis and signed a five-year contract, was shown the door after serving for only one year.

The former CEC was, in November last year, sacked over gross misconduct.

Kenyans.co.ke reported, at the time, that the move came after angry youth petitioned the County Assembly to investigate the conduct of Gababa claiming she had violated the law.

She was accused of failing to diligently execute the functions and exercise authority of her office as demanded by the law.

The youth claimed that Gababa had ignored one of their own when he visited her office to inquire on a forthcoming volleyball tournament.

The sacking came shortly after Gababa, who  had been suspended for 60 days, was found guilty after investigations were carried out.

“Investigations were done and upon completion, have revealed that Gababa was liable for gross misconduct,” read a statement from the county at the time.

Governor Kinyanjui appointed Trade, Cooperatives, and Tourism CEC Peter Ketyenya to act in that position.
