Man Constructs 2Km Road Alone After Government Neglected It

Nicholas Muchami became a hero in Kaganda village, Kiharu Constituency in Murang’a County after he took it upon himself to construct a dry weather road without any help.

The Hugo-Kiawanjaria steep climb had been earmarked for leveling but after many years of waiting, Muchami decided to dedicate his time in the activity.

The night-time watchman used only his hoe, axe and spade to dig and level up the 2Km road and took him almost two weeks.

"This road was so impassable that we resulted to making shortcuts, trespassing peoples homesteads," he told Kameme TV reporters.

He decried that he had tripped on my occasions while on his way to and from his night security job.

Muchami also stated that the road had been on such a sorry state that even vehicles could not navigate in emergency situations.

Although the locals did not help Muchami in his ambitious endeavour, they expressed their gratitude for his efforts.

They stated that Muchami, who is an orphan, had also made many other personal initiatives for the benefit of the local residents.

The story elicited reactions from netizens who wondered why the local administration was reluctant to upgrade the road.

Others called on the County Government of Murang'a to appreciate and pay Muchami for his hard work.
