Court Compels Governor Ferdinand Waititu to Approve Tatu City Construction Plans

Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Waititu has been left no choice but to approve a Ksh210 Billion construction project following a court case.

People Daily reported that The Environment and Land Court in Thika, on Wednesday, ordered Kiambu County Government to commence processing building approvals submitted by Tatu City.

According to he court documents, Tatu City developers complained of blackmail from the county after it had declined to approve the proposals following the their failure to donate 10 per cent of the land to the county.

They further argued that the county's decision had stalled their construction works.

“The developer is unable to enhance land value through sustainable development,” stated lawyers representing the city's developers.

Waititu was given 30 days to process the approvals by the court and the matter will be heard May 8 this year to confirm compliance.

The two parties have been locked in dispute where the county demands that the developers surrender the portion of their land as director by the governor.

Speaking to Kenyans.co.ke on 26th February this year, the developers indicated that they would not issue the 10 percent as required and noted that the project is already at an advanced stage.

"Tatu City is not a subdivision, rather it is a new city with an approved master plan by government and at an advanced stage of implementation," read the statement at the time.

In 2018, land value in the area had reportedly spiked to Ksh10.5 million per a quarter an acre according to a report by Business Daily.
