MPs, Senator Clash Over Matiang'i's Presidential Bid

A section of Gusii leaders has clashed over perceived presidential ambitions of Interior CS Dr. Fred Matiang’i.

Two Members of Parliament, Ben Momanyi MP for Borabu and his North Mugirango counterpart Joash Nyamoko claimed that Matiang’i had no respect for elected leaders.

The two went on to claim that the CS has been snubbing them when they seek his audience over issues in their areas.

Nyamira Senator Okong’o Omogeni, however, defended Matiang’i dismissing the two MPs.

According to the Senator, the MPs were being used to derail the CS’s regional and national influence.

People Daily reported that the senator went ahead to allege that the MPs were being used by politicians with 2022 ambitions to paint the CS in bad light.

While addressing the congregation at Bomodo SDA church on Saturday, Omogeni warned Gusii leaders stating that the community will not allow its youth to be used to discredit Matiang’i.

“Matiang’i is fit to be president of this country and this why some people have started fearing and now they want to use every means to discredit his abilities,” the senator added.

This comes at a time that the interior CS has reportedly approached Nyamira Governor John Nyangarama to convene a meeting to address the issues facing the area residents.

“I ask my governor to convene a meeting for local leaders so we can fast track finding a permanent solution for problems facing our county,” Matiang’i recently told a gathering at Miruka market, Nyamira.

He also called on the leaders to unite for development.
