City Lawyer Assa Nyakundi Talks on Son's Shooting

City lawyer Assa Nyakundi has maintained that his son's shooting was an accident citing that he loved him and there is nothing more to lose.

In an interview conducted by Daily Nation, the lawyer stated he had never been to prison, adding it would not be worse than losing his son in the manner it happened.

"There is nothing more to lose at this point. I have lost everything," he stated.

The lawyer is still admitted at the Nairobi hospital, where he has been recuperating for a month following a diagnosis of high blood pressure immediately after his son's death.

He is guarded by police officers at all times and Daily Nation indicates that before anyone can visit him, they have to screened.

The lawyer's case is set to begin Wednesday next week if a Makadara court finds him fit to stand trial, following a medical report issued on Monday by detectives to the Makadara Senior Principal Magistrate Angelo Kithinji.

"I will defend myself and my lawyers will do their bit because it was an accident," Nyakundi cited.

Nyakundi also stated that many things had been reported by the media, some of which he states are not true.

"A lot of things have been written in the media based on non-facts. Where I live is very open and the Judiciary Training College is on the road to my house, so how was it possible that the shot was from outside the car as people claim based on a post-mortem report they have not seen?" he questioned.

Earlier reports indicated he tried to reach for his pistol from the right rear pouch and in the process to holster it, he accidentally pulled the trigger, shooting his son, who was on the back seat of the Toyota Axio car, in the chest.

The two had just attended service at ICC Church along Mombasa Road and were heading home to Muthaiga North.
