Kanze Dena Makes Ksh158 Billion Blunder

Statehouse Spokesperson Kanze Dena was on Friday put to task by netizens after making a Ksh158.5 billion blunder in her communication.

In an initial statement, Kanze had stated that Kenya had secured a Ksh226 billion loan from China.

However, the correct figure was Ksh67 billion which makes a difference of Ksh158.5 billion.

The Presidential Strategic Communications Unit (PSCU) had already sent a statement to media houses with the misleading figure.

However, they noticed their mistake four hours later and issued a corrected statement on the amount that Kenya had secured.

Nation reports that PSCU had initially placed the funding secured for Konza Data Center and the Smart Cities Projects at Ksh175 billion instead of Ksh17.5 billion.

The amount secured for the construction of the JKIA to James Gichuru expressway also had an error initially being allocated Ksh51 billion instead of Ksh50 billion.

Upon noticing the error, PSCU sent another statement to media houses with the correct figures.

“The projects include the Konza Data Centre and Smart Cities Project to be undertaken by Chinese telecommunications giant Huawei at a cost of Ksh17.5 billion.

The construction of the Nairobi JKIA to James Gichuru expressway on a PPP arrangement by the China Road and Bridge Corporation for Ksh50 billion," the updated press release reads in part.
