Three newspaper scribes are now in hot water following their reporting of the ongoing murder trial that Citizen TV journalist Jacque Maribe and her ex-fiancee Jowie Irungu are involved in.
The three journalists were, on Tuesday, summoned to appear in court on grounds that they breached the court reporting guidelines.
Capital FM reported that the three will be expected, alongside their editors, to appear before Justice James Wakiaga on Wednesday.
The journalists in question are reportedly from Daily Nation and The Star newspapers.
Catherine Mwaniki, the prosecutor of the case in which the body of businesswoman Monica Kimani was found murdered in September 2018, has also applied to have the media barred from covering the event.
Mwaniki argued that allowing free access to the media would jeopardize the case in which four witnesses are protected.
“Four of the witnesses are protected while five will be expert witnesses,” Mwaniki stated.
Jowie has been in custody since his arrest after the court denied him bail for the second time on June 18, 2019, ruling that his application would only be considered after the witnesses testified.
Maribe and Irungu were on October 15, 2018, charged with the murder of the businesswoman.
Monica Kimani's body was found in a bathtub inside her house on September 19 with a slit throat.
