Governors Storm Supreme Court Building Chanting Protest Songs [VIDEO]

Governors, on Monday, forced their way into the Supreme Court Buildings, to submit a petition.

Led by Council of Governors Chairperson, Wycliffe Oparanya, they marched together in solidarity, chanting protest songs.

Governors who also joined are Mwangi wa Iria (Murang'a), Martin Wambora (Embu), Anyang' Nyong'o (Kisumu), Kivutha Kibwana (Makueni) among others.

MCAs from various counties were also present.

The county bosses are seeking to compel parliament to pass the Division of Revenue Allocation Bill 2019 which stipulates how money should be disbursed to counties.

The bill collapsed in parliament after The National Assembly and The Senate failed to agree on the amount to be allocated to the devolved units.

CoG Communication Officer, Ruth Chitwa, told Kenyans.co.ke that after submitting the petition, the governors will also march to KICC for a stakeholders conference on the same.

Oparanya accused The National Assembly of holding counties hostage through the collapsed bill.

Until the Bill is passed, counties cannot access funds from the National Treasury.

"This is to bring to your attention that county governments have no funds to perform any functions.

"It is important that Kenyans understand that county governments will literally grind to a halt," read the CoG's statement addressed to Kenyans and members of the press, dated June 2019.
