Makau Mutua Makes Comeback at Nation Newspaper

On Tuesday, outspoken lawyer and professor, Makau Mutua, expressed excitement on returning back to Daily Nation Newspaper, as a Sunday columnist.

Makau is famous for his harsh columns which speak out on critical issues, both locally and internationally.

Taking to his Twitter handle, the firebrand lawyer heaped praised on Nation Media Group’s editorial leadership.

I am pleased to return to Daily Nation this Sunday as a columnist. I do so confident that with an NMG editorial leadership committed to a free and independent press, we will keep the embers of democracy burning. Let's provoke, educate, inform, and entertain,” Mutua passionately stated.

Makau used to write for Nation on Sundays, before joining The Standard in 2013

“I have decided to take my talents to The Standard on Sunday. Thanks to colleagues at Sunday Nation and NMG for a great seven years,” he wrote on his Facebook page and Twitter handle on 11/09/2013.

He is a former Dean of the University at Buffalo Law School. Currently, he is the chairperson at Kenya Human Rights Commission (KHRC).

In 2003, he was appointed by President Mwai Kibaki to chair a task force that eventually led to the establishment of the Truth, Justice and Reconciliation Commission in 2008.

The attorney is a vocal critic of Deputy President William Ruto. During a recent JKL show on Citizen TV, he explained to Jeff Koinange why believed that the DP will not be president in 2022.

He alleged that DP Ruto was desperate for the high seat, and even resorted to using the assassination claims - a move he termed as suicidal and detrimental to his own ambition.

To date, he doesn’t refer Uhuru Kenyatta as President, instead, calls him Mr. Kenyatta.

It could not be verified whether Makau had ditched The Standard for Nation or whether he will write for both newspapers.

His last article on The Standard was on July 14 this year.
