On Wednesday night, political analyst, Herman Manyora, fiercely criticised President Uhuru Kenyatta for appointing Ukur Yatani as acting Treasury CS.
The Labour CS swiftly moved in to replace troubled Henry Rotich, who has a case to answer in court over the Kimwarer and Arror dams scandal.
Yatani will coordinate both Labour and Treasury ministries.
“Uhuru appointing Ukur Yatani is a bad joke. Despite the fact that it is a serious docket in government, he should have appointed an active minister because nobody expects Rotich to come back. There should have been a better person because Ukur Yatani has awfully handled some critical issues within his Labour docket,” Manyora differed while speaking with KTN News on phone.
The seasoned analyst went on to claim that Uhuru had lost a golden opportunity to revive the Treasury ministry and his cabinet as a whole.
“It will take ages to change that docket. He should have nominated a CS immediately and let the parliament vet his nominee. He knew a long time ago that Rotich was going down. Every Kenyan is wondering if the president is in charge.
“This arraignments in court had given the president a chance to organise his cabinet and offer Kenyans hope. An opportunity to ask CSs accused of corruption to resign,” Manyora lamented.
Manyora further accused the president of overworking Interior CS, Fred Matiang’i.
"Other than Matiangi, who else is working in that cabinet. He will be overworked," Manyora cried.
President Uhuru Kenyatta delegated Matiang'i to oversee all cabinet meetings earlier on this month.
Yatani's career in government started back in 2002 when he landed a job as a District Officer (D.O). By July of the same year, he became the District Commissioner (DC) in record time. He also served as Assistant Minister, Ministry of Science and Technology in a short stint.
On Monday, he expressed his appreciation to President Uhuru Kenyatta following his appointment to the position.
