Uhuru’s Directive to CSs Regarding Cancer

President Uhuru Kenyatta, on Thursday, announced plans to help ease the burden of the cancer disease on Kenyans.

Speaking when he chaired a Cabinet meeting at State House Nairobi, the president led the Cabinet Secretaries (CSs) in a moment of silence in honour of the late Bomet Governor Dr Joyce Laboso and the late Kibra MP Ken Okoth.

Uhuru noted that the recent high profile deaths caused by cancer just brought to the fore what many other ordinary Kenyans were already experiencing.

"I think it's very important for all of us to recognize that in a very public way these two deaths have highlighted the very real threat and danger that many Kenyans are exposed to through cancer, " Uhuru stated.

"These two deaths just highlight something that has probably hit every single-family in this republic," he added.

The Head of State directed the cabinet secretaries to set up interventions aimed at containing the growing cases of cancer-related deaths in the country.

"What all of us need to do and especially us as the government, is to really come up with a very clear policy to help our fellow Kenyans in this particular fight because it is definitely a crisis.

“This is an issue that we need to take more seriously and galvanize all of us to come up with a solution both in preventive, which is most important, but also in helping fellow Kenyans to get treatment, and get it early for those already affected by the disease,” he remarked.

Also on the agenda during the meeting was Uhuru's announcement that Kenya had joined the league of oil-exporting countries of the world.

“We are now an oil exporter. Our first deal was concluded this afternoon with 200,000 barrels at a price of Ksh1.2 billion," he revealed.
