Nation Journalist Touches Itumbi's Raw Nerve With Ruto Story

Digital Strategist, Dennis Itumbi was irked by a Nation newspaper author who penned an opinion article alleging that Deputy President William Ruto was in a dilemma over supporting President Uhuru Kenyatta's Building Bridges Initiative.

On Saturday, October 26, Itumbi blasted Macharia Gaitho who had stated that Ruto had no other option but to support BBI since it was Kenyatta's brainchild.

"With Kenyatta backing BBI, DP Ruto has no choice but to join the party...unless he can pull a trick out of his bag," Gaitho's opinion read on Saturday, October 26, Daily Nations's cover page.

Itumbi jumped to Ruto's defence as he engaged in a Twitter spat with the journalist.

According to Itumbi, the journalist had already judged Ruto and had alluded that the DP's move was visible. Thus Itumbi argued that the article was not an opinion anymore.

"I wonder how the conclusion that Ruto is in a dilemma is an opinion. No analysis can boldly declare that. My understanding is that in your opinion and now that of Nation, he is in a difficult position. He faces two unfavourable positions and that remains to be your opinion. Opinion respected," Itumbi mocked.

Gaitho acted swiftly to defend his stance after Itumbi put him on the spot. The journalist went on to ask Itumbi to elaborate more on Ruto's position after Itumbi mocked his sentiments.

"It would be good to learn the difference between opinion and analysis. Anyway, inform us if you're in the know, what position Ruto will adopt on BBI report," Gaitho responded.

Ruto himself had earlier on called out Gaitho over the same story. The DP in his Tweet marshalled support for Kenyatta but did not elaborate whether he supported BBI, an initiative that has been a thorn in his flesh.

Dilemma? No way! Jubilee as a democratic party celebrates the diversity of opinion free of hate and focused on transformation for all. For us anything big or small matters but ultimately as initiators of inclusive non-tribal political discourse we will stand behind our party and leader," the DP captioned along with a screengrab of the newspaper.

Ruto's allies have constantly pocked holes into BBI accusing it of having a sinister motive towards 2022 elections.
