Uhuru Quietly Returns From Russia Trip to Face Raging Storm

President Uhuru Kenyatta quietly returned from his trip abroad amid a looming storm over the Building Bridges Initiative report expected to be released.

On Saturday, October 26, Jubilee Communications Director, Albert Mwemusi, informed Kenyans.co.ke that Kenyatta returned to Kenya from Russia on Friday, October 25.

The head of state had left the country on Sunday, October 20, to attend the enthronement of Japan's Emperor Naruhito. He then headed to Russia and met President Vladimir Putin for bilateral talks.

Kenyatta, whose birthday is slated for (today) Saturday, October 26, is expected to receive the BBI after its release was postponed until he returned.

"The president returned but Jubilee has no birthday agenda for him," Mwemusi stated.

The highly-anticipated BBI report has been attacked by several leaders who allege that it has a sinister motive.

They claimed its aim was to create more executive seats and propel the push for a constitutional referendum.

On Thursday, October 24, 2019, Jubilee Nominated Senator Isaac Mwaura called for a press conference in Nairobi and led a brigade of Mount Kenya leaders in blasting BBI.

"We do not want an electoral college where a leader is elected from Parliament. We want one man one vote system. We will stand strong and read the report before explaining it to our people," Mwaura declared.

On Friday, October 25, former Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale during Deputy President William Ruto's Kakamega tour warned the BBI committee that they would not bow down to the initiative's proposals before analysing it.

Daily Nation on Wednesday, October 23, reported that BBI report presentation suffered a setback as members of the team which was tasked with announcing the findings disagreed.

The team's co-secretary Paul Mwangi claimed on Tuesday, October 22, that the report was ready for presentation in line with the Wednesday, October 23 deadline. However, some team members disputed his sentiments.

Uhuru is known to sneak in and out of the country with the latest instance on September 29, where he sneaked back into the country after attending the 74th United Nations General Assembly trip in the United States.
