KDF Major Mugure Fired Following His Family's Brutal Murder

UPDATE: Major Peter Mugure and Collins Pamba, a cleaner based at Laikipia Airbase, were arraigned in court on Monday, November 18, at around 11:00 a.m. for the mentioning of the case. Mugure was detained for 21 days pending investigations.

KDF Major Peter Mugure was, on Monday, November 18, dismissed from his military post in connection with the gruesome murder of his three family members.

According to a live report aired on Citizen TV, the major was presented before the military court in Nanyuki at around 7 a.m. where he was discharged to allow for a trial in a civilian court.

Mugure is the main suspect in the murder of his wife, Joyce Syombua, and two children, Shanice Maua, 10, and Prince Michael, 5.

As of that morning, Mugure was under the custody of Nanyuki DCI boss, Jacob Mureithi, ahead of being arraigned at the Nanyuki Law Courts.

Elizabeth Maua, the mother to Syombua, told the press that the Directorate of Criminal Investigations had informed her that an autopsy was expected to be carried on the three bodies on Tuesday, November 19.

The three bodies are being preserved at Nanyuki Referral Hospital.

Witnesses also informed the press that they suspected Mugure had another secret family besides that of Syombua.

Hundreds of seemingly angry residents of Nanyuki reportedly caused mayhem at the court where Mugure was arraigned and gave police officers a hard time.

Bodies of the three were found buried in a shallow grave within Thingithu Estate in Nanyuki, after the arrest of Major Peter Mugure on Saturday, November 16.

The discovery was made after the suspect led the police to where the bodies were buried.
