Ex-Tahidi High Actress Feted

Former Tahidi High actress Sarah Hassan, popularly known as Tanya, won big during the Kalasha Festivals held on Saturday, November 30, 2019, at the Safari Park Hotel in Nairobi.

Hassan bagged the Best Lead Actress for her role in the movie Plan B at the star-studded event graced by the creme de la creme of the Kenyan society including government leaders, corporation officials, company executives, film and media players among other dignitaries.

The talented actress took to Instagram to announce her win to the world, stating that she had been overwhelmed by the recognition she had received from the panellists.

"The Best lead actress in a film went to yours truly for 'Plan B' and the Best lighting technician went to the brilliant lights guru Odhiambo Walter for 'Plan B'. We are so thankful for the love and support you've shown," she announced on Sunday, December 1.

The Plan B film was written, directed and edited by acclaimed Nigerian film maker Lowla Dee (Dolapo Lola Adeleke) who has worked with Kenyan actors such as Nick Mutuma in her past projects.

Sarah Hassan, who is one of the main characters that the story revolves around, also played a huge part in the production process for the winning movie.

She starred alongside renowned actors including Catherine Kamau Karanja, Daniel Etim Effiong, Lenana Kariba, Justin Mirichii, Zahraa Khassam, Chantelle Naisola, and Mary Gacheri.

Some of the other winners of the night were George Mo, who won the Best Lead Actor category for his role the movie Lost in Time, which also took home the Best Director Award and Naomi Ng'anga as the Best Supporting Actress.

The Best Documentary Award went to My Cancer Story, an Africa Uncensored feature, with the Lifetime Achievement Award going to Francis Ouma.

The XYZ Show took home the Best Animated Feature while 'Our Perfect Wedding' won the Best Reality category.

Pascal Tokodi was named the lead Actor in a TV Drama while Nyce Wanjeri won the female sun-class in the same category.

All the winners in the 2019 Kalasha Awards received Ksh50,000 each among many other goodies from the event sponsors.

Kalasha International TV and Film Market is an initiative of the Kenya Film Commission in the fast-growing East African region.

The event’s primary objective is to showcase Kenya as a major regional hub for Film and TV production, post-production and distribution across all platforms and genres while reinforcing the uniqueness of Kenya as a shooting location.
