Sonko Misses Court Date

Nairobi Governor Mike Mbuvi Sonko's assault case, which was slated for Wednesday, December 18, has been rescheduled to January 21, 2020, after he missed court.

The case was allegedly postponed at the Voi law courts due to the governor's health complications.

Sonko's lawyers claimed that the governor was still under the weather following the altercation that occurred between him and police officers during his arrest at Ikanga strip.

"The governor's doctor directed that he could not appear in court due to his health complications so he will not avail himself in court today. He is still sick, he is suffering from high blood pressure," one of his lawyers, George Kithi, stated.

"His lawyers and the prosecution have agreed that he will appear in court on January 21, 2020," Larry Wambua, another lawyer stated.

Justice Fredrick Maiyak Nyakundi ordered that the governor had to present himself at Voi Police Station before his case was heard on the set date.

In a charge sheet dated Monday, December 9, Sonko was charged for assaulting a police officer who was in the line of duty.

Some of the witnesses in the case include;  Rashid Yakubu, CJs James Mwanzia, Michael Muriithi,  Corporal Fred Sabai, Corporal Stephen Mtawa among others.

The Nairobi County boss is facing three charges including; corruption, resisting arrest and disorderly conduct for battling police officers when they arrested him on December 6.
