Kenyans Demonstrate Moses Kuria's Arrest

The arrest of Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria has sparked demonstrations by Kenyans who demanded his release.

Gatundu South residents took to the streets on Saturday, January 11 to protest the detention for their legislator.

Kuria was arrested on Friday, January 10 over claims that he physically assaulted a woman in December 2019 after an interview with Inooro TV

On the banners they held up in protest, the area residents claimed that their legislator was being illegally detained by the DCI.

Some of the messages written on the placards include "Not guilty", "The future is bright with Mose Kuria", "Respect Wanjiku", "Release Moses Kuria" and "Viva Moses Kuria".

Their decision to protest the MP's arrest comes after several Jubilee leaders called upon law enforcement to release the controversial lawmaker.

On January 10, the likes of Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro, Kikuyu's Kimani Ichung'wa, Kandara's Alice Wahome, Nyali's Mohammed Ali criticised Kuria's detention.

Interestingly, Mohammed Ali, while addressing the media alleged that Kuria was arrested for his stance on the Building BridgesInitiative report, rather than an assault accusation.

The Nyali lawmaker claimed that Kuria's preference that leaders tackle issues related to agriculture resulted in his arrest.

"Moses Kuria was never arrested for allegedly beating up a woman, he was arrested for speaking about the BBI. He tried to tell the government to prioritise coffee, milk and other urgent matters affecting the country," Moha alleged.

Speaking to Kenyans.co.ke on Friday, January 10, Kuria alleged that he presented himself to Kilimani Police Station and was detained.

He alleged that the woman he was accused of assaulting had hatched a plan to blackmail him.
