Interior CS Fred Matiang'i was on Monday, January 13, impressed by the works of a Mombasa-based rapper during his Mombasa visit.
Reports by coast-based Baraka FM indicated that Matiang'i marveled at a project ran by rapper Ohms Law Montana dubbed the Acha Gun Shika Mic initiative.
The project, which encourages young people from the county to stay away from crime and focus on self-employment through the arts, inspired the CS who promised to provide sponsorship for several people under the program.
“As the CS, I am the champion of the empowerment of young people in the country. I am impressed with what he is doing in Kisauni and I need him to work with more young people in the Kisauni so that they can stay away from violent crime,” Matiang'i was quoted.
Montana, the Kisauni hitmaker, was overwhelmed by the prospects of working with the super CS and expressed optimism that the project would yield greater results for the youth in the area.
“We are set to have a face-to-face meeting with him to agree on how we will work together. But we would like a sponsorship that is sustainable to help sustain the young people who have left crime” Montana stated.
The CS was in Mombasa attending the 10th anniversary of The East African Marine System which has committed itself to connect Kenya to the rest of the world through a submarine fiber optic cable.
He was accompanied by ICT CS Joe Mucheru, who after the event accompanied him to visit the Swahili Pot Hub for an experience of the vibrant cultures at the coastal region.
"Accompanied by CS Joe Mucheru, Fred Matiang'i visited the Swahili Pot Hub. The hub has morphed into a creative center through the uptake of ICT and the adoption of arts.
"Through training and partnerships, the youth at the center has been providing solutions to positively transform Mombasa County," the Interior Ministry announced in a Twitter post.
Reports indicate that the Interior CS also promised to sponsor 10 girls to go through the Pwani techno girls ICT course at the Swahili Pot Hub.
