200 MPs Plot Night Meeting After Coast BBI Event

At least two hundred Jubilee Party lawmakers have confirmed attendance in a Jubilee Party parliamentary meeting to be held in Naivasha on the evening of Sunday, January 26, according to Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria.

The meeting comes a day after the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) rally that was held at Mama Ngina Waterfront, Mombasa became the first to be attended by leaders allied to Deputy President William Ruto, among them Kuria and Senate Majority Leader Kipchumba Murkomen.

Kuria, who was roughed up at the BBI event for allegedly refusing to stand when opposition leader Raila Odinga arrived at the venue, claimed that the meeting would see Jubilee declare an official position on the BBI report and subsequent regional awareness programs.

In response to various queries on the conveners of the meeting, Kuria told Kenyans.co.ke that all members of the press were invited to a briefing to be held in Naivasha on Monday, January 27 at 10 a.m.

"Gearing for the first official Jubilee parliamentary group meeting since the release of the BBI report.

"The meeting that kicks off this evening in Naivasha will come up with the official Jubilee position on the BBI scenarios to be presented to the Haji committee and also chart out a road-map for our 2022 electoral victory. Over 200 MPs from Jubilee and other like-minded members have confirmed attendance," Kuria had shared on social media.

"We will have a briefing tomorrow at 10 a.m. at Naivasha, come ask all those questions," Kuria then told this writer when questioned on whether the supposed official parliamentary meeting was sanctioned by party leaders.

Jubilee Secretary-General Raphael Tuju, Senate Majority Leader Kipchumba Murkomen and National Assembly Majority Whip Benjamin Washiali were yet to respond to our queries by the time of publication.

Nyeri Town MP Ngunjiri Wambugu, however, stated that he was not aware of the supposed meeting, dismissing it as a Tanga Tanga faction affair in a conversation with Kenyans.co.ke on Sunday, January 26.

Wambugu, a vocal figure in the Kieleweke camp backing President Uhuru Kenyatta and Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader Raila Odinga, further questioned the reported figure of 200 lawmakers who had allegedly confirmed attendance.

"I have no idea (of the parliamentary meeting). It must be a Tanga Tanga outing.

"And if it is, I doubt they are anywhere near even half of 200," he asserted.
