Update: 6.12 p.m. : Kipchumba Murkomen who also left the Meru BBI rally alongside Gatundu MP Moses Kuria, as it was going on, has apologised for disrupting the event.
A video surfaced online showing a large number of people walking out of Kinoru Stadium following the two legislators as they headed to the chopper they had used.
"It isn’t true that I stormed out of the Kinoru BBI meeting. Moses Kuria who gave me a lift was leaving for another engagement. I had no choice but to follow. I also had parental duties in my children’s school," he tweeted.
Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria was seen leaving the Meru BBI rally on Saturday, February 29, 2020, before the guest of honour could speak.
The legislator together with Elgeyo Marakwet Senator Kipchumba Murkomen arrived at Kinoru Stadium in Meru for the BBI meeting, but there were no seats left for the two on the main dias.
Kuria and other leaders were seen standing behind the podium as Meru Senator Mithika Linturi was addressing the crowd.
Speaking to Kenyans.co.ke he stated that he left the meeting because of personal reasons. Asked if he came late, the legislator stated that there was no specific time to attend the rallies and therefore he had no issue coming late or missing a seat.
"I have left the meeting together with Murkomen because of personal engagements in Nairobi, I did not speak because they wanted only those who share the same BBI stand to speak and that is why I didn't get a chance " he added.
Kuria explained that he was satisfied with today's reception at the event and could not complain despite not being allowed to talk.
"The reception was great and we can't complain" he concluded.
Murkomen had earlier on addressed the crowd and reminded them that all the leaders had been elected to solve problems and that they were not to be fooled that all there problems would be solved by BBI.
"Leaders were elected to solve problems facing Kenyans. Stop lying to Kenyans that their problems can only be solved using the BBI," stated the Senate majority leader.
This is the second time Murkomen and Kuria are missing seats at a BBI rally.
During the BBI rally in Kitui on February 1, 2020, there was chaos after Murkomen and Kuria missed their seats at the main dais.
Kuria was almost being kicked out of the Kitui meeting. The two leaders appeared to engage in a scuffle with the organizers that led to several interruptions of Makueni Governor Kivutha Kibwana's speech.
