Police Who Abducted Chinese Gunned Down in Rescue Operation

A Chinese national -Gao Yuan Hong, narrowly escaped death following a dramatic shoot out in Sun Track Estate house number 2199 in Dagoretti, Nairobi, on February 29.

According to the DCI, an AP officer who was shot dead in the rescue mission was among the four suspects who had abducted the Chinese national at the  Chinese Centre along Ngong Road on February 27.

"The four were gunned down among them an AP officer and a pistol recovered with several rounds of ammunition," DCI tweeted.

They allegedly stormed the building pretending to be DCI officers and made away with the Chinese national.

"The 4 armed suspects had demanded 1Million USD -approximately Ksh 100 million, ransom from his brother to secure his release," read a statement shared by the detectives.

A motor vehicle -Nissan Tiida model, registration number KCW 731L was found at the premises following the dramatic shoot out.

The detectives based at the Kilimani police station revealed that they had acted on intelligence reports shared by undisclosed sources.

"Forensic intelligence led the investigating team to Dagoretti at Sun Track Estate Hse no. 2199 where the victim was being held under an armed four-men-guard,

"They stealthily & tactfully approached the scene in order to save the life of the victim amid a fierce exchange of fire with the armed criminal gang," the officers revealed.

Kenya police officers have been caught on the wrong side of the law several times before, with the most recent viral incident coming in November 2019.

Two police officers were among four suspects who shot dead in botched robberies in Nairobi during that particular incident. The officers were in civilian clothes and armed at the time they were separately gunned down by their colleagues.

Police said they recovered a government registered Jericho pistol which had 10 rounds of ammunition following the shoot-out that ensued.
