UPDATE Wednesday, March 11: Lawyer Harry Gakinya was charged with the murder of Belgian Dysseleer Mireille Lesoipa.
The lawyer denied the murder charges and will be remanded until Monday, March 16, when his bail application will be heard.
The plea taking for his co-accused Lucy Waithera, however, aborted for the third time.
UPDATE Monday, March 9: A court has ordered that Nakuru-based lawyer Harry Gakinya, who is being held over the disappearance of a Belgian woman, Dysseleer Mireille Lesoipa, to undergo mental assessment.
The judge ordered that the assessment should take place before he is allowed to take plea.
The lawyer will be produced in court on Wednesday, March 11 to confirm that the medical evaluation was conducted.
On Friday, March 6, police arrested Nakuru-based lawyer Harry Gakinya over the disappearance of a Belgian woman Dysseleer Mireille Lesoipa.
Lesoipa, whom the police believe may have been murdered, disappeared around June 2019 with her whereabouts unknown.
According to a report by Daily Nation, a source informed the homicide unit of the Directorate of Criminal Investigations about suspicious succession documents filed in the High Court indicating that Lesoita had left behind a will.
Among those who were named as beneficiaries include; her best friend Lucy Waithera Njuguna, Nakuru-based lawyer John Hari Gakinya and her driver Joseph Wanjohi.
Police have since established that the document was fake.
Further, the detectives stated that the six of them have been providing contradictory information about Lesoita's whereabouts.
They suspect that the six may have killed the Belgian to share her wealth.
Waithera, a close friend of Lesoita is said to have faked a death certificate and initiated a property inheritance process.
She is said to have already sold Lesoipa's estate in Samburu valued at Ksh20 million to one Pastor Anthony Musembi.
Homicide detectives are now probing her after she was arrested on February 1, 2020, while in possession of Lesoita’s phone, ATM cards and passport.
The detectives are following leads on a theory that she forged a death certificate indicating that her friend, had suffered from HIV/AIDS, died at MP Shah Hospital and her body cremated at Kariokor Crematorium.
The Kenyan-Belgian woman who went missing last year is yet to be found. Detectives, however, believe she was murdered but her body is yet to be recovered.
Earlier reports that she had fallen sick and had been taken to hospital before she died and was cremated was debunked after detectives found out from the hospital that the victim didn't have any records there.
