Nairobi Metropolitan Services Director, General Mohammed Badi has assured Nairobians of free water during the Covid-19 outbreak period.

While addressing legislators from the county at his Kenyatta International Convention Center office, the Nairobi boss asked that representatives set aside political interests for the benefit of Kenyans.

He assured that a plan for the dispensation of free water in the county for residents would be communicated to all leaders, requiring their utmost cooperation as he pledged to serve members of the public.

"I would like you to inform your various ward representatives, so they are aware. Let us leave politics out of this, we are in a crisis and we must give Nairobians what they deserve," Badi stated.

Following the outbreak of the Covid-19 virus in the country, the government has since moved to enforce several measures to curb the spread of the deadly microbe. These included a call to employers to allow Kenyans work from home and the nationwide dusk-to-dawn curfew as declared by President Uhuru Kenyatta on Wednesday, March 25, 2020.

This has seen members of the public call upon both the national and county governments to ease living conditions since several sources of income have since been affected.

Badi's directive was in line with President Kenyatta's call to exhibit patriotism and allow members of the public to afford basic services even during this tough period.

During the meeting convened by the Nairobi general on Thursday, March 26, the leaders discussed contingency measures to shield the county from socio-economic adversities that may arise from the outbreak.

Speaking to Kenyans.co.ke, Embakasi East Member of Parliament Babu Owino informed that the discussions were centred on the provision of water, food security and other related issues to ensure safety and well being of residents during this period.

" It was decided that an emergency program will be put in place to distribute water regularly through bowsers to informal settlements to support hygiene and cleanliness which has been proved to prevent coronavirus transmission," Owino stated.

"On food, we are working on a relief food program to support the most vulnerable citizens of Nairobi who struggle to make ends meet on a day to day basis," he added.

Nairobi Senator Johnson Sakaja who was at the meeting informed that they were determined to ensure Nairobians are well catered for during the outbreak.

"There are specific interventions and measures being solidified as we secure funding to the Nairobi Metropolitan Service to ensure public safety and the protection of livelihoods for the millions of Nairobians who are vulnerable at this time," Sakaja stated.
