Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe has today issued a new directive that will help Kenyans in averting the spread of Covid-19.

In a press conference at Afya House, Kagwe declared that Kenyans have two days to ensure that they get the face masks and this is mandatory.

"Public Service Vehicle operators and boda bodas shall be required to ensure that all their passengers and everybody they carry have masks on to help avert further spread of this disease''.

The government official also declared that the government has identified several sector players who shall help them produce the masks and have them distributed countrywide.

"We shall embark on the production and distribution of face masks all over the country, and with the assistance of chiefs and boda boda operators, the masks shall be availed to the public.

Every Kenyan is expected to have a mask and to those who shall not be lucky enough to receive the face masks, Mutahi Kagwe said they shall be readily available in shops at affordable prices.

"Every Kenyan is expected to have a mask as these will be available for sale to everyone at affordable prices."

Standardisation of the face mask is already going on and Kitui County is one of the beneficiaries of this opportunity during tough times as the counties Governor Charity Ngilu recently visited Kenya Revenue Authority Offices and Ministry of Health officials to display and get approvals for mass production of the masks.

During the press conference, Mutahi Kagwe dismissed talks of conspiracy in regards to yesterday's announced recoveries of two patients terming them as negative amidst a pandemic.

Nairobians too have been warned to stop unnecessary travel to the countryside as they pose a greater risk of infecting those who are not yet affected by the disease.

Today's announcement also marked the highest number of Covid-19 infected victims ever proclaimed since the first case was announced in Kenya.
