Social media influencer Arthur Mandela alias Xtian Dela is reported to have been summoned to the DCI headquarters over controversial content on his social media platforms.
In a message on his social media platforms, Dela announced that the DCI had made good on its threat and had him summoned to the headquarters along Kiambu Road over his controversial show that is shared live on Instagram, Club Covid.
"Just got summoned by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) because of Club Covid. [I am] Currently at the DCI headquarters," Dela wrote.
Mandela has been under fire for sharing obscene material in his show and reportedly engaged young girls before the show and later raised funds to pay the entertainment they offered to his Instagram audience.
In the demand letter, the lawyer stated that the show attracts over 25,000 viewers who vote for the sum of money that should be paid to an individual entertainer, who takes home between Ksh 1,000 and Ksh 20,000.
The show airs daily from 12 midnight to 4 a.m, outside the watershed period, and at times, hosts celebrities who play a dare game.
Dela, on Wednesday, May 6, told his audience that there would be no show that night, owing to battles he was fighting behind the scenes.
"Hey guys, unfortunately, I will not be able to come back today and this week too. A lot is happening behind the scenes.
There are a lot of battles being fought, and I will keep you posted. Thank you for the support," he wrote on Instagram without further elaborating.
The DCI first hinted at having a bone to pick with Mandela in early April, after a number of parents reportedly took the case to the headquarters, complaining about the content he was airing on his social media platforms.
On Friday, April 10, a lawyer based at Ngugi Mburu Advocates, Nairobi, stated that he was representing three parents who raised concern over the content of Mandela's show and accused him of infringing on the rights of teenagers.
The lawyer's clients were concerned with the reportedly moral corruption and decadence brought by Mandela, apprehensive of the fact that teenagers and many other children around the country may be exposed to his illegal and immoral activities.
The parents filed a formal complaint on Wednesday, April 8 at Muthaiga Police Station and on Thursday, April 9, they filed another at the Cyber Crime Unit, DCI headquarters along Kiambu Road.
