Former Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale dished out thousands of Kenya shillings in the streets of Kakamega he claimed had been sent directly to him by Deputy President William Ruto.

In a video that surfaced online on the morning of Monday, May 11, the outspoken politician, while addressing the county residents, disclosed that the DP had sent him Ksh100,000

He further noted that the money was aimed at easing the effects of severe flooding on vulnerable families in Kakamega.

After the announcement, the senator personally proceeded to distribute the money to the public.

"People who have been affected here, I will give you the money [the DP] sent to my account and I withdrew it this morning.

"Ruto gave me Ksh100,000 to bring to you for your use," stated Khalwale before the distribution.

During the address, Khalwale also hit out at Kakamega Governor Wycliffe Oparanya whom he accused of abandoning the already suffering residents.

"I respect Oparanya but my respect is subsiding because he refused to help you. I also respect Uhuru [President Uhuru Kenyatta] but the respects diminishes when he refuses to help you," he stated while urging the residents to vote for Ruto as the next president in 2022.

He further expressed interest in running for the gubernatorial seat after he lost the 2017 race to the incumbent Oparanya whose two terms end in 2022.

Khalwale also insinuated that Oparanya, in his role as the chairman of the Council of Governors, was sitting on Ksh12 billion relief fund donated by various companies and individuals urging him to distribute the money equally beginning with Kakamega.

On Saturday, May 9, Khalwale wrote to the DP claiming that Oparanya and Devolution CS Eugene Wamalwa had supplied substandard Chinese food as a relief for the people affected by floods in the county.

"Dear President Kenyatta and DP William Ruto, I am writing to you with a very heavy heart! Who allowed Eugene Wamalwa and Governor Oparanya to donate Chinese junk 'food' in Navakholo today? Has it been certified by KEBS? Corona from China and now rice from China? We are not guinea pigs!" stated the former senator.
