Elgeyo Marakwet Senator Kipchumba Murkomen on Tuesday, May 13, revealed that he had a special relationship with Citizen TV anchor Waihiga Mwaura's parents.

During a live interview on News Night, the ousted Senate majority leader stated that while at the University of Nairobi, he would invite the anchors' parents to preach to the students.

"I used to invite your father and mother, who are great people to come to preach to us in the Christian Union," he conveyed.

The legislator explained his recent statements where he kept on quoting the Bible, stating that he was a leader in the institution's Christian Union.

"Some people don't know I used to be Christian Union chair and so when I am quoting the verses I'm not doing it for purposes of politics because that's my life," he added.

Murkomen has in the recent past used Bible verses to react to issues on social media when engaging in discussions on the same platform. On May 8, he quoted 3 John 1:2, “Dear friend, I pray that you may enjoy good health and that all may go well with you, even as your soul is getting along well."

While replying to the senator, Political analyst Mutahi Ngunyi on May 8, stated, "My Friend Murkomen, Any Bible verse for me this weekend? Be nice. As for you, I suggest you read Chapter 8 of Niccolo Machiavelli's book The Prince. It is about obtaining a principality through wickedness."

Waihiga, who was hosting Murkomen, is himself a devoted Christian who has been taking up missions to different churches together with his wife Joyce Omondi.

In November 2019, the Citizen TV anchor traded in his journalist's tag when he led the main service of Deliverance Church in Eldoret on invitation from Bishop George Gichana.
