Migori MCA Escapes From Covid-19 Isolation Centre

Police officers and health department officials in Migori have launched a manhunt for a nominated female Member of County Assembly who escaped from a Covid-19 isolation centre.

A report by the Standard on Friday, June 12, detailed that county health officials alerted the police after discovering that she was no longer at the quarantine facility.

The MCA vanished from the centre two days after she was forcefully admitted under the strict orders of the government. It was earlier on reported that the MCA had gone into hiding after interacting with a Covid-19 patient

"It is sad that we have a leader who instead of leading in fighting the virus, is putting others at risk. We are still tracking her.

"This is the first time a patient has escaped from the treatment centre," Health Officer Iscar Oluoch lamented, adding that she avoided testing and would put many Kenyans at risk.

Questions have been raised over the efforts of politicians and leaders to help curb the spread of Covid-19, with many of them on the spot for flouting Covid-19 rules.

Kilifi Deputy Governor Gideon Saburi was on the spotlight for reportedly transmitting Covid-19 when he reportedly declined to self-quarantine after he arrived from abroad. The DG was acquitted by the Mombasa Law court.

Speaking with Kenyans.co.ke, Snaida Ayub a psychologist stated that those in power at times misuse power in such scenarios as they do not want to appear weak or vulnerable to challenges. 

She added that anyone in power ought to realise that they are human beings too and are vulnerable to any situation facing mankind. They have to lead from the frontline in adhering to stipulated laws and regulations.

"Those in leadership should understand that they are being emulated by others, or people borrow strength from them. They should be role models and should aid others in abiding by the law," the professional counsellor stated.

President Uhuru Kenyatta, on April 22 implored Kenyans to approach the Coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic with seriousness while warning a section of patients who had escaped a Covid-19 isolation centre at Kenya Medical Training Centre (KMTC), Nairobi.

"What we have said is that those breaking the regulations we have given, no need to take them to the police station. Let them be taken to mandatory quarantine. If they break those rules again, take them back. We cannot have a few people erode the efforts we have made," Kenyatta proclaimed.
