Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe on Monday, June 15, delivered the daily Covid-19 briefing from Nyandarua County where he was accompanied by Interior CS Fred Matiangi and Water CS Sicily Kariuki.
An additional 133 cases were confirmed from 3,365 samples tested in the past 24 hours, bringing total cases in the country to 3,727.
Thirty-three more patients were discharged, bringing total recoveries to 1,286 while one more patient succumbed to the disease bringing the national death toll to 104.
The 133 positive cases were distributed in the following counties; Mombasa (61), Nairobi (3), Kilifi (7), Busia (6), Kiambu (2), and one (1) each in Kajiado, Nakuru, Muranga, and Kitui.
Kagwe urged Kenyans to help stop the spread of Coronavirus by being wary of suspicious movements and reporting strangers in their locales.
"The virus does not move on its own. It is moved by people. If you see any strangers in your localities, report them to Nyumba Kumi leaders, the Chief or Sub-Chief," he stated.
He further urged citizens to adhere strictly to directives on wearing of masks in public areas, crediting it as one of the reasons for Nyandarua's zero Covid-19 cases.
He noted that the national government was supporting counties in various ways, including by purchasing isolation beds and providing Personal Protective Equipment (PPEs).
Kagwe was hosted by Nyandarua Governor Francis Kimemia who commended him for the management of the county's pandemic response.
Kimemia stated that Nyandarua County was working on delivering 310 isolation beds as it ramps up its preparedness. He also disclosed that the county was hiring an additional 300 medical workers.
So far, Nyandarua County is one of nine counties with zero confirmed cases of the virus. Kimemia assured residents of continued screening and fumigation of public areas.
Among the raft of measures he revealed the county was undertaking, was the formation of a committee to look at the re-opening of markets and other businesses within the following 14 days.
He appealed to the national government to support the upgrading of health facilities in the area.
