Kenya Records 796 New Covid-19 Cases

Kenya has recorded 796 more Covid-19 cases in the last 24 hours bringing the total number of cases in Kenya to 15,601.

In the daily Covid-19 briefing at Afya House on Thursday, July 23, Health CAS Dr Mercy Mwangangi announced that 6,754 samples were tested in the same period of time bringing the total samples tested so far to 261,027.

"It is important to note that 89% of the cases reported in the last 24 hours were asymptomatic patients," the CAS stated.

Of the 796 cases tested, 503 are male and 293 are female while the youngest case is one-year-old and the oldest is aged 87.

Three of the cases are foreigners while the rest are Kenyans.

At the same time, 378 patients have been discharged from hospital bringing the total number of recovered cases to 7,135.

Of the 378 discharged patients, 199 are from the home-based care program while 179 were discharged from hospitals.

Regrettably, three more patients succumbed to the disease bringing the total number of fatalities to 263.

The distribution of cases in counties is as follows; Nairobi (539) Kiambu (63), Kajiado (37). Machakos (57), Migori (26), Kericho (15) ,Narok (11), Uasin Gishu (11), Nakuru (7), Busia (6), Mombasa (4), Kisii (3), Murang’a (2), Laikipia (9), Siaya (2) while Embu, Kisumu, Nyeri and Transzoia recorded a case each.

The Ministry of Health also warned the public against gender-based violence which CAS Mwangangi stated had dire consequences including an elevated chance of contracting sexually transmitted diseases such as HIV and unplanned pregnancies.

The CAS also encouraged victims of violence to report the cases to health facilities.
