Long-serving former Changamwe MP Ramadhan Kajembe’s first wife Mama Aziza Kajembe died on the morning of Friday, July 24, 2020.
Jomvu MP Mbai Twalib confirmed the news and condoled with the family of the veteran politician.
“On behalf of my family and the people of Jomvu I extend our heartfelt condolences and profound sympathies to my father in law Ramadhan Kajembe and his family on the loss of his first wife Mama Aziza Kajembe,” the MP stated.
The former MP’s first wife passed on at a private hospital in Mombasa where she was undergoing treatment.
“The deceased was well known as a mother figure to many in Mombasa West and a champion of women empowerment,” Twalib mourned.
According to Islamic traditions and in adherence to the Covid-19 instructions on funerals, the burial is expected to take place later on Friday with only a lean crowd.
Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho mourned with the family through a touching message on Facebook.
“I have learnt with shock and sorrow of the demise of Mama Aziza the first wife of former Changamwe Member of Parliament Ramadhan Kajembe.
“Mama Aziza was well known for her bravery and she was always in the forefront in assisting the women and the less fortunate in Mombasa. We wish to extend our deepest sympathies and condolences to her family for the loss,” he wrote.
Her death comes just five months after Kajembe lost his second wife Mama Zaharia Kajembe in March.
She also passed on while undergoing treatment at Aga Khan Hospital in Mombasa County.
Questions have been raised about the causes of the deaths but the family is yet to address the reports.
