Former Bongwe-Gombato MCA Omar Boga on Friday, October 2, garnered 6,183 votes, making him the ODM ticket holder for Msambweni.

In his speech, Boga noted that Msambweni was an ODM stronghold and warned that there would be a fierce battle between him and Feisal Bader, an independent candidate supported by Deputy President William Ruto and his allies.

“I was not competing for the party ticket with Mr Zani. It was between myself and tangatanga, whom we caution to prepare for a fierce battle. Msambweni is an ODM stronghold and we will recapture our seat,” Boga had stated.

ODM party will use a number of strategies in an attempt to recapture the seat that fell vacant following the death of lawmaker Suleiman Dori in March.

"We cannot reveal everything because everyone will know our strategy. All I can say for now is that we will campaign and explain to the people that we are the best placed to alleviate our problems to make sure that they will get all the services," Sifuna told Kenyans.co.ke.

Several leaders in the Coastal region are expected to rally behind various candidates in what will portray supremacy battles pitting the ODM leader and the DP.

“We are ready to start our campaigns. The road show will be to first thank our supporters as we move to the ground. It will from now on be an ODM campaign and not Boga’s,” Boga stated.

Boga added that his campaign team was planning to meet Odinga for a way forward in the months leading to the by-elction on December 15, 2020.

A number of ODM politicians like governor Ali Hassan Joho and his Kilifi counterpart Amason Kingi, are expected to lead campaigns in Msambweni for Boga.

On the other hand, Ruto allies led by former Mombasa senator Hassan Omar, Malindi MP Aisha Jumwa and Nyali MP Mohammed Ali, will be on the fore front in leading campaigns for Bader.

Bader has since indicated that he is not a project of the Deputy President.

"I read malice in the ODM party and opted out. I urge my competitors to conduct peaceful campaigns and I am confident that I will carry the day,” he stated.
