Meru governor Kiraitu Murungi has protested the recent findings posted by research firm Infotrak. The governor claimed the firm fabricated poll results that saw him rank among the lowest performing governors at position 37/47.
Kiraitu urged the Ethics and Anti Corruption Commission (EACC) to carry out investigations into the report.
"Let them look at the private sector, let them look at Infotrak. I am ready to give evidence, they were asking for 3 million," Kiraitu stated.
He added that the same Infotrak firm had in an earlier poll indicated that he didn't have a shot at becoming governor.
"I will never give a single cent to them, let me be number 47/47."
Murungi's allegations come a day after Infotrak released a performance ranking poll for governors.
Speaking to Kenyans.co.ke, Infotrack General Manager Raphael Mulwa disputed the claims saying that no governor was asked for a bribe to change the report.
"We have never approached Kiraitu and not just him but all governors to change positions. That has never happened, that will never happen. The report is available for those interested in details analysis.," he stated.
Kakamega Governor Wycliffe Oparanya was named the best performing governor in the rankings followed by by Kwale's Salim Mvurya at 77.1%, and Makueni's Kibwana at 74.4 %.
Kisumu’s Anyang’ Nyong’o came in at number 4 followed by Alfred Mutua (Machakos), John Longangapuo (West Pokot), Jackson Mandago (Uasin Gishu), Muthomi Njuk (Tharaka Nithi), Josphat Nanok (Turkana), and Hillary Barchok of Bomet closed the top ten list.
Former Kiambu Governor Ferdinard Waititu was ranked at position 47/47, with Tana River governor Dhadho Godhana sitting at position 46/47.
The list elicited mixed reactions from Kenyans on social media.
The research firm ranked governors based on key performance indicators regarding evolved functions such as health, education and agriculture.
