Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro, a close ally of Deputy President William Ruto, has read mischief in the surrender and subsequent arrest of lawyer Paul Gicheru at the Hague-based International Criminal Court (ICC).

According to an arrest warrant issued by ICC's Pre-Trial Chamber II in 2015, the advocate is accused of obstruction of justice in the case against Deputy President William Ruto where he represented some of the court's witnesses who later recanted their testimony.

On a post on his social media pages on Tuesday, November 3, Nyoro alleged that the deep state (influential members of government agencies involved in secret control of government policy) was involved in the re-emergence of Ruto's ICC case

"So the Deep State is cornered in real politics and is now resorting to ICC. Bring it on charlatans. Kenya belongs to everyone. Not a few dynasties and their surrogates. Why don't they want to meet Ruto on the battlefield come 2022," retorted Nyoro on his social media pages.

His sentiments were reiterated by Kapseret MP Oscar Sudi, who is also an ally of the DP, claiming that both the case for the DP and that of President Uhuru Kenyatta were intertwined.

"I wish to tell them that we are not scared about these evil schemes, we know each and every detail of their secret plan to tame William Ruto," Sudi stated.

Political analyst Mutahi Ngunyi, however, lauded Gicheru for surrendering himself to the international court.

"Witnesses are known to disappear. The heroic act of Paul Gicheru should attract our National prayers. May Elohim the Almighty preserve his soul. Amen." Ngunyi stated.

In an interview with NTV early in January, Ruto claimed that there was a group of people who had sent individuals to Kenya to revive the ICC cases against him as a ploy to block him from the 2022 presidential election.

"There are characters who have already sent people to Kenya to resuscitate the ICC cases against me. They did not succeed in the former presidents' Daniel Moi case and Mwai Kibaki scenarios as during those eras, such cases were prominent. They will not succeed in this particular scenario. In fact, their failure will be spectacular," Ruto spoke.

Kenyatta and Ruto faced charges for crimes against humanity in the ICC, Hague, Netherlands, over the 2007/08 post-election violence, as part of the group famously known as Ocampo Six.

Although their charges were later withdrawn, ICC Prosecutor Fatou Bensouda indicated that the cases would be revied if and when new evidence emerged.

It remains unclear circumstances that led Gicheru to surrender, having fought in the Kenyan courts to block his extradition to The Hague.
