Billionaire Zedekiah Kiprop, popularly known as Buzeki, has resigned as the Chama Cha Mashinani (CCM) Secretary General.

The move comes just a day after the party's chairman and former Bomet Governor Isaac Ruto hopped onto the Hustler Movement bandwagon headed by Deputy President William Ruto.

A report by People Daily indicated that Buzeki abandoned the party on Sunday, January 17, claiming that he would not be joining the movement.

He further noted that he was planning to unveil his own political party after claiming that Isaac made unilateral decision without consulting other members of the party.

In his response, Isaac told Buzeki that leaders should be willing to make compromises to boost unity and cohesion.

"A true leader makes compromises that unite people. We must love cohesion more than partisan party interests. I know what CCM stands for and if you believed in the core pillars of CCM, you would be supporting the Hustler Nation," he stated.

Buzeki had earlier threatened to quit the party after rumours emerged in December that Isaac Ruto was ready to throw his weight behind Gideon Moi in his quest for presidency.

At the time, Isaac had attended a Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) popularisation event hosted by the Kenya African National Union (KANU) party leader.

Buzeki has had a longstanding fight with DP Ruto after he ditched the Jubilee Party in 2019 and decamped to CCM.

At the time, the tycoon accused the Deputy President of failing to honour agreements after clinching power alongside President Uhuru Kenyatta.

Since his decamp, Buzeki has been a critic of the DP and is said to be a frontrunner for the Uasin Gishu gubernatorial seat which he lost in 2017.
