President Uhuru Kenyatta on Friday, January 29, spoke on his relationship with Deputy President William Ruto.
Addressing Mt Kenya MCAs at the Sagana State Lodge, Kenyatta maintained that he had never openly stated that he would renege on his agreement with the DP.
"I have never said I will not support William Ruto, why do you keep insulting me?
"Yes, I said kumi kumi, yangu kumi iliisha lini? (I am to serve my two terms and then he serves his two terms. But has my term ended?" he posed.
He added that he would use his remaining time in office to ensure there was no more bloodshed after elections.
"I have been busy with work, doing what you asked me to do. The rest have been making noise," he added.
The president's response came after backlash from a section of leaders allied to the Deputy President who accused the president of going back on his promise to the DP.
Addressing the dynasty narrative earlier in January 2021, President Kenyatta insinuated that Kenyans were tired of being ruled by two communities since independence, and would likely vouch for a leader from a different community come 2022.
The DP on his part urged leaders and Kenyans to focus on ideologies and not tribal-based politics.
The president is scheduled to have a 4-day working tour of the Mount Kenya region where Kenyatta is expected to launch projects in the region.
Some of the issues which will be on the discussion table at the meeting include the Big 4 Agenda, the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI), curriculum reforms, and the fight against Covid-19 among others.
At the meeting with the Head of State at Sagana on January 29, the Mt Kenya region MCAs pledged to pass BBI Bill promptly.
Prior to the meeting, 41 MPs from Mt. Kenya wrote a letter to President Uhuru Kenyatta stating that it will be a hard sell to push Raila Odinga as a presidential candidate in the Mt. Kenya region.
In the hard-hitting letter, the MPs stated that the Mt. Kenya region was reluctant to accept the handshake especially after Uhuru's previous adversarial relationship with the ODM leader in the past presidential elections.
