Former Embu Senator Lenny Kivuti on Friday, February 5, said that three of the vehicles which allegedly hit and run over a man last weekend near Sagana State Lodge were part of nearly 50 cars in National Assembly Speaker Justin Muturi's convoy.

The man, Chris Nderitu, was allegedly taken off his wheelchair by the first three vehicles, while two others which were closely behind run him over. He was pronounced dead after arriving in hospital.

Speaking to the Nation, Kivuti admitted that his car was also among those that were involved in the accident. He, however, denied claims that the vehicles sped off.

"We stopped and the area OCPD and his officers, who were also in the convoy, did everything they could in such a situation. In fact the 3 drivers were left at the scene and the vehicles towed to Naro Moru police station," Kivuti stated.

The former senator added that he used speaker Muturi's vehicle for the rest of the journey to the meeting hosted by President Uhuru Kenyatta.

He indicated that immediately the team got to the meeting, they informed the president of the incident.

The Head of State then sent Health CS Mutahi Kagwe and area MP Kanini Kega to the home of the deceased with money that would cater for Nderitu's burial expenses.

In addition, they offered to pay for his children's school fees for four years.

Yesterday, Nderitu was laid to rest in a ceremony attended by dignitaries among them; Mathira MP Rigathi Gachagua, Nominated Senator Isaac Mwaura and nominated MP David Ole Sankok.

The trio condemned the incident and threatened demonstrations for further action to be taken by the State.

In an interview on Citizen TV on Thursday, Police Spokesman Charles Owino stated that he was unaware who the vehicles involved in the accident were registered under.

He, however, stated that investigations into the matter were ongoing.
