Media personality Felix Odiwuor alias Jalang'o, rallied up his close friends and Kenyans of goodwill to raise funds for Harun Gatari Njeri-a Kenyan youth who has a medical growth condition in his hands and legs.
Speaking on the Bonga na Jalas show on Monday, March 15, Harun stated that he needed to raise Ksh5 million to enable him to seek medical treatment in India.
He further noted that some Ksh2 million had been raised by well-wishers, but he still had a shortfall of Ksh3 million.
Touched by the young boy's condition, Jalang'o made a rallying call to his media counterparts and close friends to help raise the Ksh3 Million to enable Harun seek treatment.
Jalango's first phone call went to Mombasa Governor Ali Hassan Joho, who pledged to pay for Harun's air ticket to India.
Media celebrity and news anchor Betty Kyalo contributed Ksh50,000.
Among the media personalities contacted included: Kiss FM Presenter Kamene Goro who contributed Ksh30,000, Milele FM Presenter Alex Mwakideu who gave Ksh20,000, politician cum lawyer Karen Nyamu donated Ksh50,000.
Others included Kenya Tea Development Agency (KTDA) General manager John Bett, who gave out Ksh100,000, media celebrity Kabi wa Jesus who contributed Ksh10,000, Executive Director of Ahadi Kenya Trust Stanley Kamau who parted with Ksh50,000 and Jalang'o finally contributed Ksh50,000.
Politicians such as Deputy President William Ruto, Nairobi Senator Johnson Sakaja, Starehe MP Charles Njagua alias Jaguar were all unavailable.
After making calls and receiving the funds, Jalang'o noted that they had managed to raise the Ksh3 million needed. Harun's plight came to light after media houses highlighted his condition earlier in the month.
What started out as a pimple in his right hand grew to become a swelling in his limbs. The reports showed Harun's grueling struggle to carry out basic tasks with his hands.
He pointed out that he had undergone 15 surgeries in an attempt to fix his hands and legs, to no avail.
Harun ended up on the streets of Nairobi begging. Fortunately, a Good Samaritan took him in and housed him.
