Reports reaching Kenyans.co.ke indicate that passengers have already been evacuated by rescue teams.

The accident came just a week after a pilot and co-pilot died after a fixed wing aircraft crashed in Marsabit Town around Kofia Mbaya area on Saturday, March 20.

According to a statement by the Kenya Civil Aviation (KCAA) indicated that the aircraft, registered under number 5Y-JKN, departed Wilson airport at 8:20am and crashed into a hill at around 10:10am.

Investigations into what caused the crash are still undergoing with speculations revolving around bad weather.

Some pilots argued that inaccurate GPS coordinates were also cited for aircraft accidents in Marsabit that have claimed many lives in the past.

Colonel (rtd) Nahashon Mutea explained that most Kenyan airstrips, including Kisima in Maralal, Voi, Narok, Kitale and Eldoret are inaccurate in terms of coordinates and offset from the actual location, which could lead to accidents when navigating in poor visibility.

"A good example is the Marsabit airstrip. Once you select this option on the GPS, instead of leading you to the airstrip, it homes you in on Marsabit mountain, which could have disastrous consequences, especially during periods of poor visibility," said Colonel Mutea.
