1,412 Covid-19 Cases as Deaths Rise

Health CAS Mercy Mwangangi on Wednesday, March 31, announced that 1,412 individuals had tested positive for Covid-19, out of a sample size of 9,219 tested in the last 24 hours with a positivity rate of 15.3 percent.

The total number of confirmed positive Covid-19 cases now stands at 134,058.

From the cases, 1,324 are Kenyans, 88 are foreigners while 771 are male and 641 are female. The youngest is an 8-months-old infant while the oldest has 94 years.

Unfortunately, Mwangangi announced that 6 patients succumbed to the disease in the last 24 hours from facility record audits that occurred on diverse dates. This brings the cumulative fatality to 2,153.

389 patients have recovered from the disease in the last 24 hours. 230 from home-based isolation care while 159 are from various health facilities. Total recoveries now stand at 92,679.

When asked about the ongoing vaccination across the country, the CAS maintained that Kenyans would be given the jabs for free.

"The AstraZeneca vaccine is available for free in the facilities and this includes private facilities as well," Mwangangi emphasized.

1,349 patients are admitted to various health facilities whereas 4,799 are in home-based care isolation.

On the other hand, 153 are in the Intensive Care Unit, 43 are on ventilatory support, 101 on supplementary oxygen, and 9 are on observation.

Another 106 patients are on supplementary oxygen while 91 of them are in general wards and 15 in the High Dependency Unit.

In terms of County distribution; Nairobi 651, Nakuru 142, Mombasa 90, Uasin Gishu 42, Machakos 42, Kiambu    64, Kajiado 26, Kitui 20, Kilifi 34, Nandi 19, Muranga 16, Makueni 16, Trans Nzoia 13, Kericho 13, Nyeri and Siaya 11 each, Vihiga 7, Laikip 7, Marsabit and West Pokot 6 each, Kwale and Garissa 4 each, Nyandarua, Taita Taveta and Elgeyo Marakwet 2 each, Mandera 5 and Baringo, Bungoma, Homa Bay, Kirinyaga and Lamu all recorded 1 cases each.
